To those who have known
me for a long time it will be no big surprise that I have
chosen to be trained as a LIFE COACH and add COACHING to
the services of my company. For as far as I can remember, friends and
students always surrounded me or called me on the phone seeking
encouragement, a pep talk, an uplifting, someone whom they trusted
to talk to , someone to listen to them, or someone to use
as a sounding board of their views, ideas, concerns.
For a long time I did this unconsciously, as naturally as one breathes
and I enjoyed the deep connection and people's acknowledgement.
People often told me big things like: "You touched me deeply
at the core of my essence;" "you helped me gain clarity;"
"you empowered me." These comments and the fact that,
for a long time, I spent several hours a week being there for people,
listening, encouraging, supporting, got me thinking that this had
gone beyond the friendship and love I felt for people; IT HAD BECOME
A TRUE CALLING.
What I had been doing, without calling it so, was in fact
COACHING.
So I sought to learn how to give the support people asked for in
a more organized way; to learn how to listen more intensely;
to learn how to ask the right questions and challenge people to
get unstuck faster; to validate them, and create with them
a vision of their dreams.
After a lot of soul searching and research I found the program
which felt right for me and I became a humble student at
COACH UNIVERSITY.
(I graduated in April 2005).
The advanced training of over 200 hours which I have now completed
had also unexpected personal challenges and rewards for me. I embarked
into a personal journey of self discovery that I was not aware I
had to take. During my training, I realized that my personal foundation
was the key to doing COACHING, or anything else,
successfully. So beyond the course work and training hours, I spent
countless hours understanding myself and re-creating a new me. The
results are astounding and the benefits to me and the people I come
into contact with unbelievable even to me!
The natural gift had always been there, but the digging had to
be done to unearth it and claim it as my own.
This is not to say that I know it all now; for the journey
continues... But, more than ever, I can now understand what the
Greek philosopher Socrates knew all along: That we know
nothing. And I am at peace with it.
Yet, this surrendering is not ignorant, it is MAGIC. Once
you have made this choice you begin to look at LIFE for the MIRACLE
that it is.
As Albert Einstein put it: "There are two ways to live your
life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though
everything is a miracle."
So I have made my choice. How about you?
